"I’m Fine. You’re Fine. We’re All Fine."

What makes a portrait fine art? Is it the lighting, the pose, the styling, the composition—or something less tangible?

In this presentation, Kim will break down the techniques and artistic choices she looks for when creating a fine art, museum-quality portrait. From inspiration and intention to composition, color, posing, texture, light, and the smallest details, we’ll explore how each decision contributes to the finished piece.

Because creating fine art isn’t about following a formula or becoming someone else’s version of an artist. It’s about learning to see differently, making intentional choices, and developing a visual voice that belongs to you.

I’m fine. You’re fine. We’re all fine. And we all have the ability to create a masterpiece.

a little about Kim.....

Kim Kiely is an award-winning photographer and fine art portrait artist with more than 20 years of experience. Growing up in a military family, frequent moves across states and countries introduced her to different cultures, landscapes, museums, bookstores, and antique shops—experiences that continue to influence the timeless, painterly quality of her work.

A Master Photographer, Photographic Craftsman, and Certified Professional Photographer, Kim blends strong technical foundations with an artist’s eye for light, composition, color, texture, and emotion. She is the founder of Foundation Studios in Williamsburg, Virginia, a collaborative space created for photographers to work, learn, and grow.

For Kim, photography is more than creating a beautiful image. Inspired by masterworks and the art of the past, she creates with intention and curiosity, striving to produce photographs that live somewhere between painting and photography—timeless portraits with the depth and presence to feel at home on a museum wall.
