Tish Underwood, FP
Tish’s love of travel and photography go hand in hand. She found her niche in landscape photography during many road trips throughout the US with her husband (a.k.a. “pack mule”, “lovely photo assistant”). Always curious, eager to continue learning, and interested in improving her photographic skills, Tish attends independently operated photography workshops as well as the landscape/nature courses given by the Mid-Atlantic Regional School of Professional Photography (MARS), a PPA Affiliate School. Her photographic images capture scenes from coast-to-coast…oceans to the mountains, lush green to the orange reds of the desert southwest, sunrises and sunsets. Many of those images are printed and are hanging on the walls of her home. During the most recent workshop in Death Valley and in the Alabama Hills of California’s Eastern Sierras, Tish experienced the middle of the night rush of capturing the rising Milky Way. She’s hooked on that now and will be on the hunt for more dark sky areas.
Tish has been a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) since 2010, a member of the Virginia Professional Photographers Association (VPPA) since 2013, and Secretary for the VPPA Capital District since 2016. Recognizing the valuable learning experience that can be gained from image competition, Tish began submitting her landscape images in VPPA and PPA image competitions in 2016. She was a PPA Bronze Medalist in both 2017 and 2018 and a VPPA Top Ten Photographer of the Year for both 2018 and 2019. Tish met the image competition requirements to be awarded the VPPA Fellow of Photography (FP) degree in February 2019. She only needs to earn 1 more merit during the 2019 PPA International Print Competition (IPC) to be awarded the Master of Photography degree from PPA.
A quote she found on Facebook is printed and hangs on the wall in Tish’s home workspace…”I just wanna go on more adventures. Be around good energy. Connect with people. Learn new things. Grow.” Her loving husband, her photography, PPA, and VPPA help to fulfill all of those things!
LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY…GET OUTSIDE!
During Tish’s presentation, she’ll cover key points that have improved her landscape photography from capture to post-processing, including what she’s learned from image competition. There will be examples of the good and the not so good images; getting up and out very early and staying out late to capture what is envisioned; scouting and prepping; a “do over” where the 3rd time was the charm; the images still to be accomplished and techniques still to be mastered. Tish will also mention landscape photographers that she follows for inspiration and education.
